He cut his curatorial teeth at the Met, directed the Whitney, and most recently is Director of the Dallas Museum of Art. This very readable account of his experiences is at times a bit self-congratulatory, but not in an offensive way for me. The writing is generally good, a bit uneven at times, but eminently readable and enjoyable for anyone with even a passing interest in the subject.

Extremely well written - approaches art from the standpoint of defining quality, artistic interpretation, use of materials, revelance to the history of the visual arts and personal appreciation.Does not use the 'usual' suspects for discussion - selects works that truly reflect artistic integrity in all of it's many guises.

This man's style of writing is exquisite, plus we are led to understand his development of comprehending "good, better, best" with respect to art.

The five features of what constitutes "quality" are appropriate and well thought out, but subjective which, in turn, makes the entire discussion of what constitutes quality moot. Also, the author spends a lot of effort in self-aggrandizement telling us how he found important works that others had missed, placed them in time through his extensive knowledge of classical art, etc. If you get the message on the five caracteristics, the rest is fluff.

*SPOILER* I was pleased to receive this free with my Audible subscription and am glad I listened. I thought the narrators/authors did a phenomenal job. I am repulsed by Ian Bailey and his audacity. My heart goes out to Sophie Toscan du Planter's family, and especially her son. I'm happy to hear that he still owns and frequents his mother's home in Ireland. I wish the West Cork police would have done a better job finding forensic evidence to tie to a suspect, and followed up on leads/witness accounts more quickly. (Neighbors who saw Ian's bonfire, neighbor who witnessed introduction of Ian and Sophie, etc...) I found Marie Farrell's role and lack of cooperation completely maddening! Did she really see Ian in town and on the road? Was she really coerced by the Gardi? I don't know what to make of her. I will be on the lookout for more from the team of Sam Bungey & Jennifer Forde, as they really know how to research and report a story.

Not a lot of investigating besides getting way too caught up with the main suspect's drama.

West Cork is for you if you are a fan of British crime series. Only thing, this is a true story, an unsolved crime from decades ago. The story is spread over 13 episodes/chapters allowing for in depth exploration of the crime. The story also gives you insight into life in a remote, small town in Ireland as well as deep exploration of the key players. Each episode leaves you anxious for the next.

This Audible book was interesting but too long for the story.

Very slow story and I couldn't finish it.

This was a very interesting story, although I wasn't crazy about the ending. I also enjoyed the narration, because different actors read just their own parts rather than several different parts, which is one of the things I don't like about Audible books.

Very interesting story. Sometimes a little hard to understand because of the accent. Great story, kept my attention throughout with a surprise ending. I can’t wait until I get another story. I listen to my book while cooking these days and it make the tasks easier.

The same thing repeated over and over.
