This author has won my heart and soul with her brutally honest dialogue, heart-wrenching characters, her edge-of-the-seat sports action depictions, and one of the best romantic relationships I have ever read. While this book doesn't contain the same sexual abuse triggers as book two, it is still extremely violent. If violence isn't your thing, then this book (probably the whole series, really) isn't for you.WHAT I LIKED-------------------------- Sakavic's dialogue continues to be some of the best-paced, hard-hitting dialogue I've experienced. The characters pull no punches, especially in conversations involving Aaron, Andrew, Kevin, and Neil - in any combination.- The slow and tentative intimacy in the primary romantic relationship is so very sweet it hurt my heart with hope and affection. The pace of its development over three books made it all the more right as it progressed to something more in this final book. I would say more, but I want to avoid spoilers. I *will* say that I loved these scenes and this story line so much that I have started re-reading the book immediately, even though I just finished it yesterday.- I love Exy. Every game had me on the edge of my seat. It occurred to me at one point that there might be readers who don't get into the several-page depictions of the Exy games, but I figure those people probably weren't sports lovers to begin with. Even so, I suspect it's hard to write sports action that comes across with the same intensity you would experience when watching a sports event. Sakavic *nails* it.- Sakavic has a disturbingly deft hand with violence. Any better, and I would empathetically feel what she writes - and god help me, I don't want to.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE------------------------------ Some plot lines wrapped up a little too neatly for me, but I imagine it was a struggle for Sakavic to determine what to resolve in a "safe for the rest of their lives" kind of way and what to leave as "this will continue to be hard". I would have leaned toward having more "this will continue to be hard" plot lines, but my husband often teases me about how brutal I want the endings of hard stories to be. Definitely, your mileage may vary on this point. :)

I didn’t realize I had strapped myself to a rollercoaster until it was too late to get off.I have almost 150 highlights in this book. Let that sink in for a second.I realized I was highlighting every piece of character growth and funny moment that would preserve the Foxes in my memory.That being said, I have never wanted to simultaneously throw a book away and set it on fire and clutch it to my chest in a vain attempt to stop the sobs before.So I'll be that girl again, who leaves trigger warnings in a review:Torture things, murder things, rape things, abuse things (physical and psychological).There was finally 'romance' in this book in the sense that there are kissy and sexy things, but not in the traditional sense of the word (and not explicit). And I'm kind of glad this didn't turn into a schmoopy fluffy mess (even though I would have thoroughly enjoyed that), it was so important to do right by these characters and even though it was really rough there for a while, it worked out in the end.I'm so glad I took a chance on this series.FOXES!

tl;dr: Really liked the characters, the underdog story, and the way the broken people banded together. Really disliked how dark the book got, how convoluted some of the conversations between Neil and Andrew were, and how many of the characters treated each other. Overall worth the read, but it was difficult to get through. I doubt I'll ever reread it, but I am pretty certain I will immediately go looking for ALL the fanfiction. 3 stars.*(spoiler alert)*Most interesting book in the series for me as it finally starts to dive into the relationship between Neil and Andrew in an explicitly sexual/romantic way. I also liked the renewed focus on exy rather than the darker elements. Don't get me wrong; I completely skipped at least 10 pages in this book because I just did not need to hear about someone getting tortured (and yes, there were multiple torture scenes, each several pages long); the book was still really dark and really hard for me to read. But the last quarter was focused primarily on exy, which was a breath of fresh air.I did occasionally get frustrated with the way the book would casually refer to an offhand remark from the previous book and expect the reader to be able to both place it and recognize its added significance in light of new events. Really, no sentence ever passed between Andrew and Neil can be classified as "offhand", so be prepared to go back and forth looking things up a lot. To be honest, sometimes I just ignored them entirely, attempted to guess the new significance, and if I couldn't do that, just assumed it broke down the barriers between them a bit more and moved on. Some of the character's decision making proccesses were difficult to follow (especially the twins'), which was annoying but not a deal-breaker.
