Father Laux's INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE is a very useful, instructive assessment of the Bible, biblical history, and "secular" history of the Ancient Middle East. Father Laux gives readers very good historical background to the Bible, and readers whether they are Catholic or not can benefit from this book.This reviewer disagrees with Father Laux on The Documentary Hypothesis of the Torah or first five books of the Bible. In spite of this fact, this disagreement does not undermine the value of the book. Had Father Laux lived long enough to examine the Dead Sea Scrolls and other recently discovered sources, he may have modfied his views. Father Laux is obviously a partisan of Catholcism and the Catholic Church. Anyone who critisizes him for that is wasting their time. Father Laux was very clear about his religious loyalties. Readers should know this in no way detracts from the value of the book.Father Laux's presentation of other books of the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament is very enlightening. He gives readers the political forces and challenges faced by the Ancient Hebrews, and he explains the religious disputes among different Judean factions. The book gives readers a concise view of Ancient Hebrew social history which in turn gives the reader a better understanding of irate Ancient Hebrew Prophets who railed against social injustice, violations of religious codes, and blatent hypocracy. Father Laux's placing the Prophetic Books and Books of Poetry in proper historical context make reading the Bible easier and with more understanding.One feature of Father Laux's book was his handling of Hebrew poetry such as Job, the Pslams, Proverbs, etc. Father Laux did a masterful job in enlightening readers to this part of the Bible. While this reviewer disagrees with Father Laux's intrepretation of the book titled Canticles of Canticles or Song of Songs, Father Laux's commentary is very good.Father Laux gives readers escellent coverage of the Apocrophy. Readers may know that the Catholic Bible has seven books that are not in most Protestant bibles. These books are Judeth, Tobit or Tobius, Ecclesiasticus not to be confused with Ecclesiastes, Wisdom, and First and Second Maccabees. His explanation of why the Early Church Fathers accepted these books as canonical is clear and understandable. His remarks re St. Jerome (346-420)inclusion of these books in St. Jerome's Vulgate Bible gives readers good reasons of why the Catholic Church includes these books.Father Laux's explanation of the New Testament is just as good as his explanation of the Old Testament. He gives the reader some insight to the use of the Aramaic and Greek languages. He explains the Synoptic problem and offers intelligent solutions. A very valuable part of his explanation of the New Testament is his careful description of the differences of the "Jewish" Christians who originated in Judea and the Gentile Christians who originated outside of Judea. He cites the differences between Jewish traditions and those of the Greeks and Romans. One can follow the Pauline Epistles and other sections of the New Testament easier by referring to Father Laux's book.Father Laux was sure but not arrogant in writing this book. When biblical scholars are not sure or he (Father Laux) is not sure, he is honest enough to admit it. He gives different views and logically explains his own views. Father has placed useful maps in this book to assist readers. He has sections titled Suggestions for Further Study which present thoughtful questions to readers as well as useful bibliogrpahies.Any reader interested in a solid understanding of the Bible would do well to carefully read this book. I liked this 2nd book in the series. The actual story is very interesting and keeps you wanting to know “What’s next!”But...... there were a LOT of typos in this book. Much more than book 1. For the higher than average price, I expected a LOT better editing. Seemed like the author may have changed some character names during editing as well.[Semi spoiler below…]Author kept bouncing back and forth between which daughter was shot, Taylor or Lee Ann. For the entire chapter, the name kept swapping back and forth. Also seems as if the neighbors name changed from Don to Howard at some point. Many times “don” was used in place of Howard’s name.There were a few more inconsistencies that didn’t add up and a lot of typos.The character building wasn’t as strong as in book 1. So far, this (inexplainable) “instant trust” and friendship between Mr “paranoid and shoot first” aka, Morgan and his new pal Jeff really bothered me. It was not in character with the Morgan we’ve been reading about.Some characters that were rather prominent in the beginning of this book, just seemed to disappear. It felt as though the author got bored with them and decided to just ignore them. The side effect is that it created some rather annoying dead ends.Thankfully the actual story line was interesting enough that I didn’t just give up.One last shake of my suspension of disbelief was Morgan and neighbors giving up their home (proposed in the book). It really doesn’t make sense. Perhaps if the reasons were better outlined, it would not be so unbelievable. As it is, it seems foolish to go more primitive. Maybe book 3 will have these reasons more apparent.

I have really come to enjoy this genre over the past couple of years, and I am glad to see it expanding. Like its cousin, the zombie apocalypse novels (survival with a gruesome fantasy twist), the pure survivalist genre entertains while teaching and reinforcing important survival principals and the need to hone them BEFORE "something bad happens." I read "Going Home" in a single day. Then I immediately purchased and downloaded "Surviving Home" for my Kindle and again polished it off in a day. As soon as I finished, I went looking for book three to find out what happens next to Morgan, Sarge and the rest of the crew. Imagine my disappointment in finding out I will have to wait because it has not been written yet.The "Going Home" series is exciting, fun and edgy. I love the situations and the tension in the story as life after "the event" unfolds for the reader. I particularly like the way the author follows the main characters from book one as they go their separate ways and then begins to bring them back together through the most dramatic of circumstances to reform as a force to be reckoned with later in the story.I have just one suggestion that would make the stories more enjoyable. I am a retired English professor and very widely read. I have instructed many students in the art of writing and the skills of proper grammar and punctuation. There are countless errors (many simply the result of a lack of thorough proofreading) throughout both books that at times become a real distraction. A good proofreading by a knowledgeable and detail-oriented individual would quickly clean up future manuscripts. I would happily volunteer for the task in order to be able to read it sooner. LOL.That said, I thoroughly enjoy the series and can hardly wait for the next one.

If you've read my review of book one you can skip ahead because I don't really have anything new to say, just want the author to have some honest reviews in return for his hard work putting pen to paper.I read a lot of post-apocalypse fiction. Most writers suck at it. Their scenarios are rather far fetched, their characters are cookie cutter preppers I could never relate to if we were face to face, and the decisions their characters make are so stupid as to put them in deeper jeopardy making their professed prepper status highly questionable and making me hope Darwin got it right so I'll never have to deal with them.A.A.'s characters are well developed, thinking people, even the bad guys. They behave in ways that are true to their back story. Yes, they make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes have unpleasant consequences.As of today, there are maybe 10 or more books in the series. They enter my library as soon as they are released and that's unusual for me because my experience is that when an author pens a series beyond a certain number of books, they seem to reach a point where they're either phoning it in to continue milking the cash cow, or they get so tired of the characters and storyline that they begin to hate what they perceive as a rut. Neither pitfall traps this series.The story arc is such that the plot could run on for another 10 books or more provided the author continues to keep events believable. The characters are not one-note survivalists. They continue to mature and evolve as events unfold.The author isn't afraid to kill off a key character or two and new characters are fleshed out just as well as the ones that survive through everything.In spite of the seriousness of the subject, the author isn't afraid of some comic relief and there are genuine belly laughs spread throughout the series.So far, I've only been mildly disappointed with one book in the series and I believe that's because Weatherman bowed to fan pressure and turned a book out before he should have. If you pick up this series, you'll know which one I'm referring to and I'm sure he does too. When a writer is as social media connected to their fan base as he is, and that base is screaming for the next book, that's hard to ignore but easy to forgive.I hope one day to write this well and have my fans clamoring for the next book.

I love these books! (We also got the Reading and Writing workbooks.) We're homeschooling, and our first grader doesn't always have diligence with getting his school work done. It's been a couple of weeks since we bought these books and he wants to jump into them even before breakfast!The content is good and grade-appropriate, and it even encourages some stretch work that I wouldn't expect from a first-grader, but the son is eager to try them. We bought this workbook for my 6 year old 1st grader. He loved it from the minute we handed it to him and completed it from cover to cover within a few weeks (he asked to bring it to his room during quiet time every day!). He's never seen Star Wars, but he thinks the characters are cool. Now he's begging us for the 2nd grade math book! Highly recommend!!

I bought this book for my Kindergartener. He is absolutely obsessed with math/numbers AND Star Wars, so when he saw this book, it was a no brainer. He LOVES this workbook! We started home schooling this year and I had to put the book up high on a shelf because he wants to just keep doing more and more worksheets. We have only been doing school for a month and he is already halfway through the book. THATS A GOOD THING!! It makes learning fun!

This is our second set of Star Wars workbooks. We also purchased the Kindergarten set last year. My son loves these and gets excited to do math because of the star wars theme and characters that are in the book. The level of the math problems is very appropriate for first graders. We bring this with us when we go to restaurants and he works on math problems while we are waiting to be served. It keeps him quiet and he is learning so win-win.

This book was fun for my 6 yo. He finished K, and was looking forward to 1st grade. But the material was too easy for him, I was hoping for more challenge. He finished the entire volume in 4 days. I would like to suggest that editors should put few more challenging problems in the next edition.

I love the way they used the movie details to teach concepts appropriate to the age. Especially in the solving problems. My son enjoyed this book very much.

This is a great math book for first graders. Our son has been struggling with math recently because it’s not the most fun and it’s a bit difficult. So when he gets home if he doesn’t have homework from school we do a page out of the Star Wars math book and he will actually do it, and not fight me about it because he loves all things Star Wars.

These are okay, but look like kindergarten level activities.My daughter is six, and spent most of her school year in kindergarten this year (2016-17), and just moved up to first grade for the last quarter. I bought this to help her with the concept of adding double digit number (27+16), which is what she's been bringing home this week. This book doesn't touch on that at all. It matches up with the kindergarten homework we just moved away from, so it would be great for your 5-6 year old to go along with their math work, but I would say it's pretty useless except as review for first grade.I thought to return it, but it is good and I will keep it for my second daughter who is coming up behind her sister soon.

I was expecting more on the culture, language, and history - this seems to really focus on the biggest cities so if that is where you are going it may be fine. I wanted something that was a bit more in depth for the country. Not that it does not provide maps or an overview but the treatment is fairly superficial.

Very useful in Spain!

You guys are crazy. I spent 3 hrs sitting at the Barnes and nobles comparing this one vs Rick steven’s best of Spain plus eyewitness version of Spain and etc., and while similar, this one came out on top. It’s just the right size to carry around, practical and actually essential useful information inside and has a map while Rick Steven version does not. Oh, and the paper quality is better too, and it’s full color on every page.

Absolutely useless. We now need to go rush out and buy another book before we leave on our trip. Gives no useful information and is a discredit to the Lonely Planet name. Usually their books are fantastic and essential. This is useless and we will probably throw it away. Find another travel book.
