I had and used the original South Beach Diet book years ago with wonderful results. I prefer South Beach over any other low carb diet because it incorporates low glycemic choices that give me enough fruit and carbs to stay on this program. I also have found that low glycemic gives me significant results in a short time so I feel motivated to continue on this plan. I bought this book to refresh my memory of the program and to see what had been added since I used it before.

I did this diet religiously for a week and lost 7 pounds in ONE WEEK! AND that was with a few CHEATS! I was on PHASE 1 and it was livable, but a little too strict for my taste, but cutting off the bread, sugar, potatoes, and rice DID help me realize the importance of limiting them in my regular diet. Now I'm mixing aspects of THIS diet with the 'Intermittent Fasting', and have been consistently losing weight!

I lost 12 pounds in about a month. This diet doesn’t leave you hungry but plan ahead with plenty of snacks. Make two vegetables with dinner. When following the recipes you will need to add salt and pepper and more herbs and spices. Pretty healthy diet.

This book gave me the push I needed to get started on the "campaign" to better health which for me includes weight loss! I like that there are no measurements but easy to follow lists of foods to eat and those to avoid or eat rarely.

Probably the most effective diet I ever tried. We get the old revision in a Garage Sale, but decided to have the new revision base in new data and research for food nutritional facts. Even better than before. In the first two weeks, following the diet, I loose 10 pounds, no kidding. Effective, yes.

Great diet and easy to stay on. I started since a friend was on it and I was traveling with her. Six weeks and 18 pounds later I still have no problem with my choices.

I found the first two weeks easy to follow and was satisfied with those results. I like that the focus is to link you to a health lifestyle of eating rather than just weight reduction. I would recommend it to others.

Today is my 9 day on south beach diet and i've already lost 7 lb....LOVE THE RESULTS:):):)!!!.....First stage is not easy but doable.....Includes a lot of recipes which mostly are tasty:) and easy to prepare....Would definitely recommend it:)!!!

Father Austin's interior work is a most difficult story - - that a man married to a woman he loves deeply who is dying. It is easy to avoid a book such as this: the topic is off putting; it is sad nearly from the first page; the tension in the when is unbearable, as we know there is no happy ending; and, may I say it, for the sophisticate, for the modern; and for the "educated:" city dweller, well, who is really going to take the writing of an Episcopal Priest, a theologian no less, seriously. ? Too easy to pass up; and in doing so, too easy to miss a life changing walk with this man in the realm of live, death and suffering. It is a few pages, but not a page turner. It stops you in your tracks. Do not miss this important, near great work.

Having lost my wife to brain cancer two years ago, I was hungry for a perspective on the age-old question of why bad things happen to good people and vice-versa. Knowing this was written by a pastor, I expected a somewhat preachy self-righteous book. Far from it, his experience seems to cause him to step back from his chosen profession and view it as a layman, to question his own faith at times, just as I guess we all do. He brings biblical references to us in an educational, rather than preachy way. I think many of us who don't wear our religion on our sleeves, are not known as "Bible Thumpers" are not extremely active in a church, etc, and while generally believing in God, but retaining just a hint of agnosticism, really appreciate his honest way of coming to terms with his loss. So much of what he experienced, I experienced... In the end, while I can say his faith is undoubtedly stronger than mine, this book was and is a very comforting read.

I am going to be honest. This book made me cry more often than not. I think it is because of the honesty in which Fr. Austin talked about his experiences with Susan. This easily has to be one of the best books I have ever read. From a Pastoral Care perspective, it provides the reader a perspective of understanding the questions of why God does what he does to those we love. He provides a unique view of God's love and the pain of losing a loved one. God's love can not be explained. God loves us and we love our spouses. However, God will ask for our Love back and at that point, we must accept that he will take back what He loves. Death is not an end but often times a release and a joy because it restores the equal nature the spouses have for one another.Fr. Austin after explaining his time with Susan discusses Jesus at the crucifixion. He describes it as a loud event with screams much how our life is constantly bombarded with things that need our attention. At the end, when Jesus had everything against him he still prays to God "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" (Matthew 27:46) Fr. Austin says that when God takes back our love there is finally silence. A calm peaceful feeling. He gives us the ability to be equal again. No matter how dark and bad it gets, Jesus has been further and therefore is with us. Although this prayer is in a question it shows that despite being at the darkest place without God, Jesus still prayed to God.I have found this book an important book for those looking into Pastoral Care and for those that are currently in it. The reason I believe this is because it comes from the point of view of the caregiver and survivor. It is a raw look into the emotions and trial of faith for the vow "For Sickness and In Health". It reminds us that it is the simple things that we love. That even in the worst of it there is still meaning in the prayers we say from the time we are children till now. In the midst of our theological teaching sometimes the survivor does n0t need to know the theological answer but needs hear the basic simple words of our youth. Jesus loves you and is with you although your paths diverge from one another, at the end your love and you will be reunited for greater things to come.

Not a book useful in finding gentle emotional poultices for the heart, or breathtakingly brilliant and mind-settling arguments for the intellect. It was, rather a personal, but thoroughly authentic (for those who have been fellow travelers with Father Austin) and raw recounting of the experience of the profound pain of living while deeply aware of the goodness of others, and their nature as gift - but a gift from a very strange God.Reading it was like praying, cursing, regretting, wrestling, but most of all giving thanks for God's always inexplicable, and sometimes unrecognized gifts.JMT

I'm in the midst of losing my wife of 25 years to breast cancer that has spread throughout her body including her brain. She has had cancer now for 17 years. Thank you for taking your time and putting your heart through all the love, pain and loss again by writing this book. It has helped me and should help others in similar situations.

I read this together with my wife over the last couple of weeks. We smiled, and shed many tears as we read the book. You'll find great theological meditations, laments, and life lessons within. It's wonderfully written, too.

John H. Falk is Executive Director of the Institute for Learning Innovation and Sea Grant Professor Emeritus of Free-Choice Learning at Oregon State University. He is known internationally for his work in the area of free-choice learning; the learning that occurs while visiting museums, science centers, zoos, aquariums, parks, watching educational television or surfing the Internet for information. His recent research has focused on studying the long-term impacts of free-choice learning institutions; understanding why people utilize free-choice learning settings during their leisure time and helping cultural institutions of all kinds re-think their future positioning and business models in the 21st century. Dr. Falk has authored over two hundred scholarly articles and chapters and has published more than a dozen books in this and related areas; among them, Born to Choose (Falk, 2017), The Museum Experience Revisited (Falk & Dierking, 2014), Identity and the Museum Visitor Experience (Falk, 2009), and Thriving in the Knowledge Age (Falk & Sheppard, 2006).Lynn D. Dierking is Director of Strategy & Partnerships, Institute for Learning Innovation, and Professor, Free-Choice Learning, Oregon State University. Her research on lifelong, out-of-school learning (after-school, home- and community-based contexts), with youth and families, focuses primarily on youth/families living in poverty and/or not historically engaged in free-choice learning from cultural institutions/organizations. Brian Murray has done a great job writing a book that both newbie commercial investors and those with more experience will enjoy and find beneficial. I own several single family rentals and a 24-unit apartment building that are all performing well, so I'm not a newbie, but nevertheless I found myself highlighting key insights on almost every page of the book. There is plenty of practical advice along with related anecdotes in every chapter, and his straightforward and relatable writing style make the reader, or at least this reader, believe that achieving significant success in the world of commercial real estate is something ordinary people can realistically achieve. The book is quite an achievement. I don't know if Brian has written many books in the past, but if this is one of his first forays as an author you wouldn't know it from the quality of his work.Brian also was able to put into words something that I've felt but not been able to express as clearly as he did. In response to a friend who asked him how much money his real estate business needs to be worth before he would walk away (sell it), he says the question misses the point. "I might have started my business for the extra income, but it became more than that with every hour of my time I put into growing it, as it does for most entrepreneurs." The book has plenty of examples of the hard work and tenant drama that make real estate investing via commercial building ownership completely different than passive investments like the stock market, but the pride and self-satisfaction from making a positive difference in the lives of tenants and in the community from improving commercial property comes through throughout the book.

This is more of a motivational book, like "you can do commercial real estate! Rah rah rah." If you don't know anything about it, then this is an overview. Definitely not a how to book. There are better books out there on the subject. Wish I had not wasted my time on this one. (Kept thinking the meat of the subject was coming up)

I just finished reading Crushing It. If I am to describe it in one world, I would say it is: Real! I absolutely loved the book because of that: keeping it real. Throughout the book, it kept reminding me of Shoe Dog. Although very different, but both books struck me as genuine on so many levels.Brian simply shares his experience in the book, the good and the bad, and all the lessons to learn from that. He keeps it simple, and shares some resources on his website, as well as a summary of simple and practical financial formulas, a real estate glossary, team members skills you would need, and other practical stuff. He gives what I think is the right dose of encouragement coupled with a caveat on what a real estate business really takes. It certainly is not a get-rich-in-a-week magic prescription, nor in a year nor in five for that matter. But with the right dedication, knowledge, and hard work, it certainly an investment that pays off on the long run. He is very much pro a long term approach, and even discourages a buy-and-flip approach (of course depending on what your overall strategy is). I liked the fact that he bases his long term strategy on adding value to your assets then extracting equity and re-investing again, rather than betting on value appreciation by pure market factors. I also enjoyed what I thought were hilarious -albeit super weird- stories about some of his tenants.He shares some of his personal experiences as well as the values he holds. That also resonated a lot with my personal experience and my values. It is a book I thoroughly enjoyed flip to flip, and I certainly recommend. I hope he writes more, and perhaps get into some details of financial modeling and different property market specificities.

Brian Murray's text Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate is a great read for a fellow teacher who would love a little bit more income to help deal with some expenses, as well as to help pad my wallet a little bit. As a teacher I don’t have a lot of extra money which was the entire draw of purchasing Murray’s book, especially when I saw that Murray himself was a former teacher. It was really nice to read through the book because I know next to nothing about real estate and never would have considered investing in apartments or even commercial real estate. So this book was great as both an eye opener and some good ideas for a beginner.The best, and strongest, part of his book was that a lot of the advice he offers doesn’t require someone to be independently wealthy but suggests numerous ways to keep costs low and to help going into debt (which I already have plenty of as a teacher). It was especially nice that he has so many different suggestions on how to both use what you’ve got and to be inventive. For someone new to the game it was really great that he also had plenty of examples and personal stories that showed how he went from teacher to CEO of a massive company. I’m very excited to try and implement some of the things that he discussed in his book.

I love this book. Before I had it, I never really knew that a "supercar" could be a 1936 Jaguar SS-100! Every photo is in full-color, and true to the headline, this is my first book about supercars that has a Bugatti Chiron in it. I received this book on Friday, August 24, 2018. Other cars in this book are the Koenigsegg Agera RS, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Bugatti Veyron. This book is an absolute MUST for anyone so interested in CARS!

I bought this as a gift. I received it with the top of the box ripped & the cover of the book totally wet. Since I did not have time to get another gift I gave the book without the outside cover. Very disappointing!

Bought this book for my son, the super car enthusiast. He loved the book, but quickly found errors. Some photos did not match the car and there are misspelled car titles.

Our Grandson just loved this book, and was so excited to get it for Christmas.

Great photos and our grandson really enjoyed it.
