Being treated like a bald headed step child to music royalty, being offered a death sentence to accepting a life full of miracles and great accomplishments. I laughed so hard many times during me read. The part with her and Aretha Franklin, omg, FUNNY!! Tionne tells it as she seen it and makes it so easy to connect with her. The in detailed stories about TLC are paramount and makes you miss Lisa Lopes. I NOW understand why Lisa was acting out the way she did. When she talks about Lisa's funeral I couldn't stop laughing. I know that's the part of the book where you shouldn't laugh BUT the way she described the events taking place around her were sooooo funny! Her detail throughout the book is very precise, which places the reader in the room as the action is taking place. I can hear her voice throughout the read. The strength she pulled from her mother and grandmother throughout her journey brings Tionne even closer down to earth. I give this book a STRONG four stars. Good Read.

Tionne Watkins has opened up and let us into what it's like for her living with Sickle Cell Disease as well as the flip side of what it has been like for her as a member of TLC. She takes us on this roller coaster ride of ups, downs, twists, and turns. She has definitely lived a full life. This book shows how one person along with love and help from friends and family has overcome many life obstacles and she still stands before us, today. It's about setbacks, triumphs, progressing, growth, love, and a constant fight/will to keep going no matter what. I really enjoyed the book. You will also learn some cool new information about situations that TLC(T-Boz, Lefteye, and Chilli) had to deal with. "A Sick Life" is humorous, full of drama, and lots of inspiration. It's a personal story but it's a lot of situations and experiences that so many of us can relate to. Everyone should go out and pick this one up!

I could not put this book down. I went from laughing at the good times and the fights with the groupies from feeling her pain with the needles and the veins giving out. If you want to know about what it felt like to grow up before social media, this Book is for you. I've been a fan from the first single all the way until now. I own every CD that the group has made. I remember clearly the day the news came about Left eye passing away. Thanks Tionne for giving us a piece of your life. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for you next. I'm also looking forward to watching your future Big Screen Movies.

Loved it!!! I finally finished reading it and I must say it's the first book I've actually read since my purchase of Lil Mo's autobiography. With that being said, I knew I had to have this book because Tionne T-Boz Watkins is one of my favorite singers/entertainers of all time. Her realness is unmatched by any other entertainer; so many feel they have to put on a show at all times and be fake, but not T-Boz. She's always been open and honest about her struggles and flaws, thus writing the TLC hit "Unpretty". Growing up, TLC was a huge part of my childhood; you couldn't turn on your radio without hearing them, however it was something that always drew me to T-Boz. I must say, this young lady has endured and beat the odds. With everything she's had to deal with, she still continues to fight for her life, when many would have given up a long time ago. After reading this book, it's made me love her even more.

This was a good book. I gave this book five stars because I liked the fact that Tionne addressed what sickle cell disease is because a lot of people don't know about this disease and the effect it has on a person's body. My son and one of my nephew's has sickle cell (my nephew's is worse) so I know the effect it has on a person's body. So thank you Tionne for educating the people who is unfamiliar with this disease. Overall, I enjoyed this book Tionne didn't talk much about Lisa "Left Eye" or Chilli but that's ok because this is her story and I feel she did a good job telling it.

Loved the book! Heavy content on Lisa and her challenges with her personal life and the group. Chilli is only mentioned as it pertains to the group. It feels like Chilli asked to be excluded from T-Boz commenting on her personal details in this book. Overall, I loved it. I cried, laughed, and felt a sense of closeness with T-Boz while reading it. ❤️

I appreciated the fluency of this story; clear-cut, down-to-earth, and solid good pacing. Reading about Sickle Cell was particularly eye-opening. Her view on medicine and physicians, on point. Loved her relationship with her mother, grandmother, and friends like Jessica; and actually the relationship between the R&B TLC group. More to the point, the level-headedness of the telling of the overall story is respectable. There was just so much in here. The dual premise behind the title really hit it home! All around a powerful well-told memoir. Read it in a day! Highly Recommended!

I've been following this woman ever since I was just seven years old! From her first book seventeen years ago I must say reading the untold stories of her pain, strength and survival I must give all credit. Tionne has endured so much lord knows but yet beating all odds. A Sick Life is long over due but came right on time. Keep fighting Tionne I'm with you.

There is a problem with the electronic version of the book on iPhones if you use the black background and white text. On many pages the first sentence was cut off making it difficult to join the dots or know the pearls of wisdom being offered. It was very frustrating. The publishers did mention they are looking into it.BUT...Apart from that - this book is a must read for every business big and small. I am scared for big businesses out there who are stuck in rigid ways of operating and thinking. They're in for a surprise. But I am just as scared for my little business who has to follow the recommendations to ensure long term sustainability. There is so much that has to happen and it is extremely overwhelming for a 2 man business less than 3 years old. That being said, least we are forewarned and can start designing our customer experiences around their needs.The book is information overload - I mirror the sentiments above, it's a long read - but an important one. And we can't say we weren't warned now. I do think it offers golden opportunities for software developers out there to build the tools we need to manage social business in future. If you have one, please by all means tell me about it.Comprehensive research, well written, mostly practical, helpful real world examples, often scary.I made copious notes throughout the book and believe I will buy the hard copy due to the reading issues I had, and because the book needs to become an operating manual we need to refer to often.Read this book if you own a business.

The use of color in the book also helped captivate my attention while reading.Overall this book has exceeded my expectations and has given me a boost to succeed in my graduate program and career ahead. It covers the areas in sales and marketing to customer service and product development to leadership and culture. It is a must read for those interested in how businesses are changing and the future of customer engagement. I would highly recommend this book not only to marketers but also to entrepreneurs and managers in other industries. Senior to junior executives that want to get a jump start against the competition will also find this useful.

This has got to be the WORST book I have ever read. It has no content and is very poorly written. There are parts that are almost impossible to read due to the lack of punctuation.

How can you have a book about jewelry and not have a single picture? And there is no formatting at all. It appears to be a first draft. It needs some work.

No new info here. No pictures,prices or descriptions. Definitely not what I expected. Too short and concise to be an ultimate guide.

A great book. I have both the paper and Kindle editions. The paper one is outstanding. The Kindle one has little or no figures close to the text, and more than a few are just omitted. The many tables are sometimes illegible because of character size chosen. Music notation examples are not included in line along with the text, but in notes. You have to keep going back and forth to notes all the time, which I find very inconvenient. This should be corrected since there is no reason for such inconvenient layout.For the time being, just go for the paper book, since this is one you probably want on the shelf anyway.

This is a wonderful book for Bach enthusiasts -- incredibly detailed, but everything you have ever wanted to know about Bach is in one spot. But the Kindle version was a great disappointment because there are NO ILLUSTRATIONS. The table of contents lists dozens of illustrations that I was dying to see, but they don't appear anywhere ( at least that I can find). What a rip. They should warn you before you buy it that you aren't getting the entire book. Very disappointing.

I just finished reading this book - loved it. I have, of late, fallen in love with classical music. It's all I listen to in the car and at work. I felt it was time to learn more about one of my favorite composers, and this book was great.Facts I found most interesting:Bach came from a family of talented and respected musiciansHe was an incredibly talented and respected organist. Churches would have him come to examine and inspect their newly built organs. (Makes his organ compositions more interesting)He had 20 children (from two wives - the first died suddenly of illness) 10 made it to adulthood. While living in Leipzig his family lived in a large home by the time's standards - 803 square feet!Much of Bach's work was lost after his death. He divided his manuscripts among his four musical children, and only Carl Philipp Emanuel managed his inherited music with care - the others sold theirs piecemeal.I am completely un-educated when it comes to the technical side of the music, so a lot of the discussion of the music itself went over my head. Still, I enjoyed the book immensely.

This book is hard to read. Its bogged down in meaningless details. In the end, I did not get anything out of it. The only reason I don't give it 1 star, its that someone worked very hard to create all this. Meanwhile there are better books on Bach out there.

Wolff certainly has done the research and then written a passionate account of this "learned musician" for the ages. Among the fine qualities of this biography is a clear, concise writing style with erudite thinking demonstrated sorting out the historical sources surrounding Bach's life.Tracing his life chronologically, the book's theme is one of a composer/virtuoso/organ expert who develops out of self-interest and passion for music and especially his family background of musicians. He certainly had some ins because of this family heritage, but certainly on the same hand earned his way by his demonstrated abilities on the organ, pipe organ construction and maintenance and finally composition.Revolutionizing the music craft by his counterpoint and harmonization, his influence both to those who come after him including his two older sons, this man continues to play vital role in unfolding world of music.Minor missing element which certainly is understandable for the non-theologically inclined is the major influence that Bach's theology played in his music. From the surviving Cavlov Bible that we have from J.S., we know this as certainty.

After reading this book I came away with a good understanding of Bach's musical achievements and his concept of what music is all about. This is a very well written and comprehensive look at Bach's music and musical evolution thru life - including his major, longer works (no minuets included) and musical surroundings. It is very well worth reading for its study of Bach's music if you have some technical musical background (more on that later).One small complaint: most of the music titles are given in German only. Since there are hundreds of such cases, it was impractical to do always search for a translation on the internet so I'm sure I missed a few points. For example the titles of Bach's first three key teaching works are listed - with only the first in English. Wolff then says that "the carefully coordinated phraseology of all three titles" were impressive!Fortunately, the German version of "The Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach" is obvious in meaning but shamefully without translation: for many of us, one of our first piano pieces came from that notebook!Finally, this is not a complaint, but a warning. You will have great difficulty with this book if you don't have some background in musical terminology, notation, and Baroque music history. You should know the meaning of terms like "basso continuo", "counterpoint", "thoroughbass" (figured bass), etc. to appreciate the text. For example, there is much discussion of Bach's role in the evolution of the "Fugue". Other forms, such as the "motet" (sacred music not an integral part of the mass) are mentioned without definition. For such a background, I would recommend Kamien's "Music An Appreciation, Ed.8" - or a less expensive alternative that covers music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque Period.

One of the most inspiring historical books I have read. Even with a limited knowledge of music history and theory, I felt the author wrote in a way that helped me grasp the essence of the man and time.

Definitive, but not light reading. Kindle version very helpful bec the search is better than the paperback index.

As difficult as it was to read, the book was a part of American history that should live on in the hearts of all Americans. Thanks to all of our "Greatest Generation."

I came across the author's story online several years back. I'm glad to have purchased his book. God bless Mr. Dyess and all the soldiers who made it as well as those who didn't make it. God bless America.

A riveting account of first person experience in WWII. Men survive torture, jungle, deprivation at the hand of the Japs in the Phillipines during WWII.Excellently written, a true and tragic account 0f imprisonment after surviving the Bataan death march.

Book arrived in great condition!

I had heard of the Bataan Death March but I was unaware of the brutality administered by the Japanese soldiers. I knew the soldiers had to overcome the heat, humidity, starvation and the long marches but to bear witness to impromptu executions and inhumane beatings of your fellow countrymen is enough to make a normal man crumble. Colonel Dyess did not survive the war but his recollection of Bataan will live forever. .

I enjoyed the book and it was a good read. Having been stationed in the Philippines and having been to a luncheon with a US Army Bataan Death March survivor as our speaker, I believe Captain Dyess portrayed the treatment by the Japanese as accurate.
