About the Author
After 30 years as a teacher and administrator, Hetty van Gurp founded Peaceful Schools International, an internationally recognized charitable organization. In addition to her work in education, Hetty has also served as a member of the Canadian federal Human Rights Tribunal. In 2006 Hetty was named as a Canadian hero by TIME magazine and Today’s Parent magazine. Reader’s Digest also recognized Hetty as a Canadian hero in 2007. In 2005, a Doctorate of Civil Law was conferred on Hetty by Saint Mary’s University. Hetty is the author of four books: Peace in the Classroom; Peaceful Schools: Models that Work; Peer Mediation: a Complete Training Manual and Creating Caring Schools: peace-promoting activities for all seasons. Hetty enjoys hooking rugs, making baskets and spending time with her grandchildren.

It was an interesting story and interesting pictures. I do appreciate her artistry. I understand she didn't want to write a "how-to" type of book. However, the section, "A Few Tips" makes me wonder why she chose the tips that she did. The book certainly was not worth the money. I have much better inspirational weaving books in my library.
I absolutely love this book. It is a delightful conversation about a very talented and inspiring teacher/basket maker. The photographs are stunning. Thank you, Hetty van Gurp, for this tribute to the amazing Jean!

Jean's story is wonderful and the pictures are just lovely. It's a nice afternoon read while sipping a glass of ice tea.
Very nice personal journey of pine needle basket maker, Hetty vanGurp's art. Not really instructional, but inspirational and gives you a real feel for her love of using freely-gathered, natural materials (pine needles and oyster shells) in her basket-making. I very much enjoyed this book and recommend it as a nice asset to any pine needle basket maker's library. Book arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
